The Bowen Technique is a highly effective soft tissue remedial therapy which, amongst other things, encourages the body to relax, realign and heal itself. The Bowen Therapist uses thumbs or fingers to make a series of precise, gentle rolling-type moves over crucial junctions of muscle, bone and nerve pathways. Sets of moves are alternated with leaving the client to rest for a few minutes to give the body time to respond before further moves are undertaken. It is during these pauses that the Bowen Therapist leaves the room - a little unusual, but a vital part of the treatment.
The effect of the Bowen move is to create a gentle 'disturbance' in the underlying tissue that prompts a central nervous sytem reaction which: stimulates energy flow; facilitates lymphatic drainage of toxins and waste; promotes good circulation; releases tension; increases mobility and encourages the body to relax, realign and heal itself.
The treatment is subtle and relaxing and most of the work can be performed through light clothing (or directly on the skin).
While many experience immediate pain relief, improvement is just as likely to unfold over the next few days to a week. Clients also generally feel a sense of well-being and reduced anxiety.
